Maria Isabel Hagen

Performance, directing

Maria Isabel Hagen completed her studies of Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen and Reykjavik in 2016 with a Master's degree. Since then she has lived and worked as a director, performer and dramaturg. She also teaches Body Art Performance at the University of Erlangen. In 2019 she was part of the jury of the Arena Festival. From 2016-2020 she worked as part of the team for the main Frei Festival in Hamburg. In her artistic work she explores the limits of her own body and the overlap between acting and performance.
In Hamburg she develops stage plays together with choreographer Jessica Nupen and sound designer Konstantin Bessonov and is an active member of the DfdK.

She has collaborated in various durational and site-specific performances and installations with Xavier le Roy, Dave St. Pierre, Angela Davis, Josh Dolgin and others at theatre festivals (International Summer Festival Kampnagel, Treibstoff Festival Basel, Diskurs Festival Gießen).

Her private interests include the fermentation times of a sourdough.
