Talk with Character

The project is called: Talk with Character.
It is about discussions.

People talk with each other.
They talk about democracy.
They talk about Europe.

Real people talk together.
But also invented characters,
played by performers.

The project took place in public space.

Public space means:
Outside on the street.
Not at home.
Not in a theatre building.

It is theatre outside on the street
or in public places.

People walk by.
Some stop.
They start talking.

The talk is fun.
It feels like a game.

After that,
the conversation moves to important topics.
For example:
Politics.
Living together in society.

The project took place in 2019.
The reason was the elections
to the European Parliament.

The Brachland Ensemble was part of a tour.

A tour means:
Travelling through many cities.

The tour was called: Living Democracy.
There were many events in NRW.

NRW stands for:
the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia.
It is in Germany.

People were spoken to directly.
There were games and conversations.
This led to deep discussions.

A special format was called: Talk with Character.
One person played famous characters.
Some were real.
Some were invented.

For example:
An American president.
Or Pippi Longstocking.
Or even the European Union.

Citizens could join the talk.
They spoke about current topics.
For example human rights or Europe.
New ideas were created this way.

and Maria Isabel Hagen.

Performers were
Maria Isabel Hagen,
Dominik Breuer,
and Milan Pesl.

The project was created in cooperation
with the State Agency
for Civic Education NRW.
