Role-playing is also called:
A simulation.
A simulation game means:
People act out decisions.
You can see what happens next.
The audience takes part.
The audience makes decisions.
Then everyone sees the results.
In Europe Inn, the audience decides about Europe.
For one evening.
The idea is:
What is good for a neighborhood
can also be good for Europe.
The play can happen live.
Or on the internet.
Or in a video conference.
The story begins in a pub.
The pub also serves food.
The owner needs to buy chicken.
But there is no cheap chicken anymore.
Many people are angry.
The reason:
There is a conflict between Europe
and another country.
The other country is outside
the European Union.
Short form: E. U.
The pub owner and her team write to the EU.
The answer from the EU is short:
“Do it yourself.”
Then something special happens.
The pub becomes the EU Parliament.
The audience plays the members of parliament.
They make important decisions.
People at home can also take part.
They can send ideas.
They can join the discussion.
Every evening is different.
Because the audience decides.
At the end, there is a surprise.
The first performance was on
23 October 2020 at Theatre Aachen.
The concept and direction were by
Dominik Breuer.
The dramaturgy was by
Inge Zeppenfeld
and Maria Isabel Hagen.
Stage and costumes were by
Franziska Smolarek.
Many actors took part.
The project was created with partners.
For example Theatre Aachen
and the State Agency
for Civic Education NRW.
The project received funding.
For example from the State of NRW
and the Fonds Soziokultur.
