Idols

There is a theatre play.
It is about self-determination.

The play is called: Idols.

It is a theatre play.
It is documentary.

This means:
It shows real people and real experiences.
It is about self-determination.
And about being controlled by others.

People with disabilities
and people without disabilities
make theatre together.
Everyone works equally.

The play asks:
Who decides about me?
Who am I?
Who are my role models?

In the play, people with disabilities,
actors,
and a dancer perform together.

There are scenes from an old theatre play.
The play is called: Girls in Uniform.

It is about strict rules
and obedience.

These scenes meet the present time.
They are about trust
and openness.

There are acted scenes.
There are interviews.
There is dance.
And personal moments.

In this way, play and reality mix.
Order and chaos mix.

The working process was very important.
Everyone was taken seriously.
Everyone could show
what they are good at.

The director was
Gunnar Seidel.

Many actors took part.

The project was created
in cooperation with
Lebenshilfe Region Kassel.

It was supported by
Aktion Mensch
and the City of Kassel.

The play won a prize
at the Hessian Theatre Days 2013.
