Living Democracy! 2022
There is an action.
The action was called “Living Democracy!“.
The project strengthens democracy.
Democracy is a way of living.
Democracy is also a way to govern a country.
In a democracy, people help make decisions.
People are allowed to vote.
All people have the same value.
Every opinion is important.
The project is about conversations.
It is about exchange.
It is about taking part.
What is it about in general?
The Brachland Ensemble took part in an action.
The action was called: “Living Democracy!”
The action happened before the state election in NRW in 2022.
NRW means:
North Rhine-Westphalia.
It is a federal state.
Germany has many federal states.
Germany is a democracy.
The activities took place outside.
For example on squares or streets.
People could join in.
People could share their opinion.
What is it about exactly?
The project took place in more than 20 cities in NRW.
It was created together with the
State Agency for Civic Education NRW.
There were many activities where people could join.
The activities were playful.
They made feelings visible.
It was about questions like:
How do we talk with each other?
How do we feel in discussions?
Many discussions are very emotional.
Often people only talk to others
who think the same.
People with the same opinion
argue less.
This is called: living in a bubble.
In a bubble, you hardly hear other opinions.
Other opinions may feel strange.
Other opinions may feel wrong.
But other opinions can also be right.
Your own opinion is not always true.
The project wanted to help people talk again.
And understand each other better.
One important activity was the Wahl-O-Mat.
The Wahl-O-Mat is a computer program.
It helps people find their political opinion.
Here, the Wahl-O-Mat was not played on a computer.
It was played as a real game in the city.
This helped people start conversations.
