The project is called: Walk the Line.
Walk the Line is English.
It means:
To walk a path.
The project is about democracy.
Democracy means:
Everyone can take part.
Everyone has a say.
The project takes place in a neighborhood.
What is it about in general?
The project makes democracy easy to experience.
People take a walk together.
A guided tour in a neighborhood.
People meet.
They talk with each other.
They share ideas.
They learn about participation in everyday life.
Everyone should feel encouraged to take part.
What is it about exactly?
The project started in 2019 in Krefeld.
The reason was a visit by the Federal President.
The Federal President is the head of Germany.
He or she is elected every 5 years.
The current Federal President is:
Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The Brachland Ensemble created the route.
The route is called here:
Walkable Agora.
Agora is a Greek word.
It means:
A public place for conversations.
Many people took part.
People from politics and society were also there.
They showed their work.
Everyone who was there joined in.
There were games and tasks.
People could join alone.
Or in groups.
Everyone showed what they are good at.
They talked about problems.
They looked for solutions together.
People came to the workshop day
from all over NRW.
NRW stands for:
The federal state North Rhine-Westphalia.
It is in Germany.
They came from neighborhood projects
and democracy workshops.
Everyone who took part liked it very much.
The concept was by
Dominik Breuer.
Several artists worked on the project.
The project was created
in cooperation with partners from Krefeld.
For example with the Democracy Workshop Krefeld.
The project was supported by
the State Agency for Civic Education NRW.
